1991-1996: Vomit Thrower

vomitthrower.net

  • In the late eighties I stumbled across punk rock by accident. I grew up in a rural town were there were no punks - just a lot of jocks and rednecks - and had no exposure to anything other than top-40 radio. Viva Las Vegas by DK was the song that first hooked me. From there I borrowed, bought, and read everything I could find/afford about punk rock.

  • While hanging out in College Square one night I met Adam. Not many people had died hair in Athens, everyone was so into REM and similar sounding bands (which at the time, covered 95% of the projects in Athens). It was easy to pick out people who were "outsiders". Adam and I started talking and decided to try and get a band together. I was introduced to Schade and Steve later on and we started rehearsals soon thereafter.

  • Our practice days were usually Sundays. We'd car pool to Adams house after lunch and play for several hours. I'm amazed to this day that his parents (and their neighbors) allowed us to carry on like we did every weekend. We had a blast.

  • Our first concert was at a place called Club Fred's on Baxter street; Feb 26, 1992. I was very shy and stood as still as a statue the whole show. It turned out ok, though - we were doing something that for Athens was new and fresh - and very raw.

  • We had a few more shows at Fred's and we also played at some other places. One of these was called the Ant Farm. It was a practice space used by our freinds Uncle Messy. We played with them a few timems and even had some bands come in from California for a huge night of bands nad partying.

  • The local music press hated us. They made the mistake of giving us negative publicity, which of course just egged us on even more.

  • The band finally called it quits in 1996.

  • Oh... Know where I can find another Aria guitar exactly like the one in the third and fifth picture? Please email me at adrya_ga@yahoo.com
